Happy weekend, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. This week we’re making a mimosa for mom—a “momosa,” if you will—and we’re making it kind of fancy.
3-Ingredient Happy Hour: The Smoky Han Shot First
May the Fourth be with you, my nerds, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink …
Now, I know the mimosa is already fancy in its own right—it comes in a champagne flute, after all—but this is Mom we’re talking about, and she deserves only the most primo things, including sparkling alcoholic beverages. To make our momosa, we’ll be enlisting the help of pretty pink grapefruit juice and sweet, sweet elderflower liqueur. Before we get to the deets, however, I’m going to tell you a little elderflower-scented secret.
I don’t use elderflower liqueur in a lot of the cocktails I make for myself and, if I’m going to pay $30 for a bottle of ethanol, it’s going to be gin or rye, not St. Germain (I do love the pretty bottle though). Instead, I’ll pick up a $5-bottle of IKEA’s elderflower drink syrup, and mix it in equal parts with vodka as needed, to make my own, much cheaper, syrupy elderflower booze.
How to Hack the IKEA Food Market
I have long loved IKEA, not just for the LACK units of my college days or the little table I’m…
You, of course, are allowed to use whatever elderflower liqueur you wish—DIY or not—I just thought I’d share that little tip with you. Anyway, to make this sweet and tart bubbly bev, you will need:
- 1 ounce elderflower liqueur
- 1 ounce ruby red grapefruit juice
- Whatever kind of bubbly you desire, for topping
Pour the liqueur and juice into a champagne flute and give the two ingredients a stir. Top with sparkling wine and hand directly to your favorite mama. Or, if you don’t celebrate Mother’s Day, just drink it yourself. Non-moms will enjoy this too.
