The new Google Penguin update was a big change that has been very unsettling to SEO’ers, both blackhats and whitehats. There are lots of good details and insights in this article, but for the average website or business with a website, I think the third and fourth methods they outline are the most likely to be used.
Most companies do not have the time to (waste) creating a bunch of micro sites that diffuse the message of their own website, so microsites are not the answer (unless maybe your website and business includes the word microsites???) :)
Similarly, most businesses do not have a whole lot of time for courting high quality blog networks either. Great if you can do it, but a huge time suck. Although there is a good side note here, DO NOT GO LINKBUILDING ON LOW QUALITY BLOG NETWORKS! :)
That leaves the practical matter of diversifying anchor text where you can both within your own site and on any sites where you have reciprocal link exchanges and a friendly contact willing to update their links for you. Do expect to return the favor!
Their fourth recommendation is also solid, although it seems to miss the concept of writing lots of original content yourself, still a great way to do good things. Similarly, it misses the value of doing more on the larger of the Social networks such as YouTube and Facebook and Twitter!
