Palm Pre Won’t Work with Horse Whips, Corsets, or 9 Volt Batteries

Yesterday, I was able to watch a very long in depth presentation of the new Palm Pre. 

Let me warn all iPhone users now, this could be an iPhone killer.  I know you love your iPhones, your hacked iPhones, you iPhone 3G’s are the best thing since sliced bread.  I know its scary that something might knock off the iPhone, but these things happen otherwise we’d all be talking on a Startac from Motorola still.

The demo was terrific.  The Pre is going to be a great phone.  The Pre is better than the iPhone. 

I will not spout the reasons why, I’ll share video of what I saw and let you make up your own mind.

The Pre of course has not yet been through the crucible.  We don’t know if something important was missed, but at first glance it looks like most bases have been covered.  I say ‘most’ because there are some features that have not yet been disclosed.  If those boxes are checked then this will definitely be a hot phone.  If not, it will still be as popular as the iPhone because it is still better and has as many functions.

Its also destined to go on a network that is almost as crappy at customer service as the network that iPhone is exclusive too.  Pre is going on Sprint initially, possibly exclusively, but unlike Apple, Palm has a long history of working with all carriers.

DISCLAIMER:  I do not do business with at&t because they stole $1000 from me in 2000 when I moved from Illinois to Florida and changed my billing address.  They slammed me into a $3 per minute plan.  After months of hours spent on the phone, I had to pay the bill.  I have a long memory and am not likely to ever change my mind about at&t.  I am also not a journalist, I’m a blogger and you are subject to my subjectivity if you are reading this article.  That’s my job – to share my perspective.

Now, after seeing the demonstration yesterday, I read this article on Computerworld, might have been a magazine or something back when we still ‘printed’ articles on ‘paper’.    The articles was titled,

New Palm Pre won’t work with old apps

So here is the thing, that sounds negative and its basically a hook to fool people into reading the article.  No worries, that is what copy writers, editors and some journalists have to do. 

So do bloggers btw.

The thing is saying that is like saying that the model T ford won’t go any faster with a horse whip. 

Who Cares?

It will do so much more without those things it does not matter.  Sometimes a gadget needs a complete reset and in this case Palm needed a design reset and that has been completely achieved.
